Break

Watch:

This may change your life, or not.

  • Create an equations page toward the back of your Notebook.
  • Make a table  define the symbols variables and units (ABCS OF PHYSICS)
  • Do this for easy as pie as well

When We Get Back
In your Lab notebook
Objective:
Experiment and produce using a pendulum the Graph picture shown in class.
Explain how you got the desired graph.
What is position?
Take a picture of your set up.
Draw a diagram of your setup that produced your final graph.
Sketch the graph in your notebook? What are the max and min what do they represent?
How could  you use this in the Not as Easy as Pie Lab?
Are there anything you learned about the U.L.I.?

NOT AS EASY AS PIE

Quest   Wednesday 12/20/17

DUE MONDAY  12/18/17 "not as Easy as Pie"

Complete the Parent and Daughter graph demonstrated in class using Excel

Key Terms:
Graphical analysis, Linear Relationship, proportional, Slope, Intercept, Percent error, accuracy, precision, Coefficient of regression

3 SKILLS TAUGHT 3
"GOOD GRAPHING"
Write the equation of a line in slope intercept form.
What is the formula for slope?
What is the formula for the slope of your graph?
What are the units of your slope?
What is the ideal value for this relationship?
What is y-intercept?
What was your y-intercept from your graph?
(4)ANALYSIS (4)
What does the intercept tell you about your lab?  What should your intercept have been? Explain.
What is the formula for % error?
What does the slope of your graph represent?
What was your % error in the lab?
If the error is above ±5 % give a possible reason(s) that agree(s) with the error.
Look at the R2 value, this is known as the coefficient of regression.  It is a number describing how well your points follow a linear relationship.  The closer it is to 1 indicates linearity.
Does the R2 describe the Precision or the Accuracy?
(5)Interpretation (5)
Using the above information write a statement citing evidence about both the precision and accuracy of your lab.  What needs to be done to improve the results in future labs?  Is there a way you can verify this?

NOT AS EASY AS PI

Experimentally determine a mathematical model that relates the time and the length of a pendulum.
  • Why did you use 10 swings?
    • How does this affect the accuracy?
    • How does this affect your precision?
  • What would you need to do to increase the precision?
  • Calculate the precision using your graph?
  • What id the dependent variable? Explain.
    • What axis does the independent variable?
  • What is the coefficient of regression?
    • What does this tell you about your relationship?
    • Does your graph (model) support a linear relationship?
      • What are the 2 ways you can check/verify

Straitening Things Out:
  • Parent Graphs
